Good afternoon Band Families, We have a busy and exciting stretch ahead! This week includes Symphonic Band rehearsal on Monday, Wind Ensemble rehearsal on Wednesday, and our FAU Pre-Festival performance on Friday for Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Our color guard will also be performing in WGI Tampa on Saturday. As we look ahead, we are preparing to host Concert MPAs on March 10–11 and truly need strong parent volunteer support since all of our students will be performing. We also have important upcoming opportunities to connect and fundraise, including our March 8 Parent Engagement Social, the March 7 Flea Market, continued Indianapolis sponsorship efforts (11 students already fully sponsored!), and iThink training for families interested in working events this summer. There are many ways to get involved, and your support makes all the difference for our kids. Thank you for all that you do, and please continue to help us out by supporting and communicating! We NEED you f...

iThink training dates

Happy Friday Parents, I have received training dates for the iThink Amphitheater in West Palm Beach. If you want to work iThink events this summer you must attend this training. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind about working at iThink.  First, what does working at iThink include? IThink places us in booths serving alcohol. You might be serving beer, frozen drinks, mixed drinks, etc. You might also carry heavy items to restock inventory. There may be a non-alcoholic booth; however, there is no guarantee you will be assigned to work those booths. There are no food preparation or kitchen jobs. You will work directly with customers. You must also diligently check IDs. Please keep these points in mind before attending the iThink training.  Second, iThink is an outdoor venue and all booths are outside, meaning exposure to sun, heat and possible rain. Please be prepared for this.  Third, the number of iThink volunteers needed depends on the tickets sold fo...

We are so proud of our jazz band students who performed in MPA this week, and we are SO grateful for our parent volunteers who helped make this event a success. As always, the directors and judges praised us for always being the best hosts, which is a direct compliment to y'all. In addition, our Concert Band Brass and Woodwind Choirs, percussion ensemble "shock factor" and Valentina F earned SUPERIOR ratings at Solo and Ensemble this past weekend. We are SO proud of them, but also very proud of everyone who prepared and performed!  This week will be a little bit of a breather, but as always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns, happy to help in any way!  Week at a Glance: Due soon: Wind Ensemble Indy deposit #2: School Cash Online, OR by Check/Cash Monday, Wednesday -- Indoor Perc rehearsals 4:30-8 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday -- Indoor G...

Heart-to-Heart: The Future of Our Band Family and Volunteering

Dear  Park Vista Band Families, I’m writing this to you not just with my "band director hat," but adult-to-adult. I want to be incredibly candid about where we are as a program, because right now, we are at a bit of a crossroads. Mr. Rodriguez and I work tirelessly, every single day, to ensure Park Vista remains a model program. From marching band and concert performances to guard, percussion, honor performances, all state, all county, hosting clinics and MPAs, we pour everything we have into these students. Our kids match that energy; they are behind the scenes, at every gig, and in every class doing the heavy lifting. But the "secret sauce" of a thriving band has always been the parents. We ask the kids for a lot, and all we need from our families is to handle the things the kids simply  can’t  do. The Reality of our Volunteer Situation Currently, our volunteer slots in CutTime are rarely being filled. This isn't just about "extra help," it’s impac...
