PV Band Weekly Update - 8.3-8.10

 Good morning Band Families,

We did it! 2 weeks of 9-9's are DONE (see you on August 16 for the next one)!!! I hope all are resting this weekend, these kids should be so proud of how much they have been able to accomplish in 2 weeks. This week, we transition into our 4-hour rehearsals that mimic what the school year will look like. Teachers also go back to school this week, meaning our students can take the day to prep, relax, (catch up on their summer reading assignments that all of them...definitely started...!), etc.
Looking forward to a great few days, an amazing friends and family show on August 6, and a great finish to the summer!
Please read below for all pertinent information, and as always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Happy last week of summer before school starts!

Thank you for all you do!!

President's Message:

Looking forward to seeing our kids out in the lot bringing the show to life at our annual Friends and Family Night. Please try your best to come and be a part of this special event, I promise it will be worth your time. If you are looking to find opportunities helping out with the band, we could really use it. Currently we do not have a fundraising chair and this makes fundraising a true challenge. I would love to have someone step up to assist and fill this gap in the program. If this sounds overwhelming we can try to make a committee to divide the responsibilities but without someone in charge we will only have very limited opportunities to raise money for our fair share. Email me if you have any interest. Our first fundraiser will be Fan Angel and we will roll that out once we have all the information – hopefully on Wednesday.

These kids sound amazing and the music is beautiful – I can’t wait to win States and go out with a bang!

Friends and Family Show and Potluck Dinner:

Wednesday August 6th is the Annual Friends and Family Event.  This is our opportunity to get a fun sneak peak of our kids hard work and progress throughout band camp.  Starting at 7 pm Friends and Family are invited to watch the kids perform and learn more about what it takes to get their show on the field (there will be some hands on parent participation).  It’s a lot of fun! Please come out!!

Immediately following the “show” is a potluck style dinner for all students and their families in the Park Vista Cafeteria.  There is NO cost for the dinner but a donation item is requested per family.  We have a signup for the dinner within Cut Time. (Sign up is encouraged to help with planning but last minute participation is welcome and please come with a dish even if you do not get a chance to formally sign up)

Bring food to the cafeteria on Wednesday from 5pm until start time.  You can send your dishes or donation items with your student if it’s easier (we will have a table set up in the band hallway for student drop off) but cafeteria drop off by parents is preferred.

We also request parent volunteers to assist with event set up in the cafeteria and parents to help with dinner service and cleanup.  Please sign up in CutTime and volunteer if you can!

Band Olympics:

Friday 8/8 from 6-9 will be Band Olympics for the students.  There will be fun and competitive games that they always enjoy as they wind down from Band Camp.  Separate communication to students will be forthcoming regarding teams, team colors, and other instructions and items needed for the evening of fun.  Please note dinner is not included in the event.  Parent volunteers are needed from 5-9 for set up/prep and to help host/facilitate (sign up in Cut Time)

Fair Share Reminder:

The first fair share payment of $350 was due on Friday, August 1. If you have not paid yet, please send it in with your child this week.

Your student’s name and FAIR SHARE should be written on the outside of an envelope with the payment and put in the band safe. There are envelopes available near the band safe if you do not have one.

Unfortunately, payments cannot be made through CutTime. CutTime is a record-keeper or receipt displayer, and NOT a payment collection method, as our district has not authorized the payment portion of CutTime. School Cash Online will be available for future payments, but this one must be made by cash or check. Make checks payable to "Park Vista Band."

******If you have any questions or financial concerns, please reach out. We can work with all of you!! *******

Merchandise Fee Reminder:

If you have not yet paid your merchandise fee, it is now OVERDUE! How do you know if your child owes merch fees?  If your child has a new Igloo brand water jug, then you have paid! If they don't, you owe merch fees!

How much do I owe?  It varies depending on if they are a new member, returning member, guard member, and any a la carte items they ordered (replacement shoes, etc.)  Please ask Marjorie Soffer for your total owed.

How do I pay it?  Cash or check in an envelope with your child's name and the word "MERCH" and have your child put it in the band safe.

What if I have questions?  Please message Marjorie Soffer on Slack, or email spiritwear@parkvistaband.com.
