PVHS Band Weekly Update 6.2-6.8

 Good afternoon band families,

This week is the week for June camp! At first, I completely understand, this might look daunting. 12 hour days for the kids seem like a lot on paper, but these kids are warriors and handle it so well for 4 days!
We give them ample breaks, enforce safety practices (I have been telling them since April that they are athletes and we will treat them as such; they need to respect their bodies), and we make sure that the kids are hydrating all day. The growth they have in 4 days is astronomical, and it really is my favorite part of every year. 9-9's have been a PVHS "tradition" since the beginning, and the kids bond really well. This will be a GREAT week!

**Special note for our parent meeting on June 5 - please make every effort to be there, so we can go over fees, trips, calendars, etc.**

Please see attached for the graphics we have been sending the kids on their Band Camp checklist, as well as recommended shoes for the activity. These kids on average get about 20K steps a day in the summer, and their favorite Jordan's won't give them the support they need! :)

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns; happy to help in any way!

Week at a Glance:
Monday - Thursday, June 2-5 -- June Band Camp, 9am-9pm
Thursday, June 5 -- Parent meeting for all new band parents, 7pm
Thursday, June 5 -- Parent meeting for all new and returning band parents, 8pm

June Band Camp:
Please help your student be prepared for success by ensuring they bring the following items every day:
  • Their Instrument & Accessories: (e.g., reeds, valve oil, drumsticks, mouthpieces)
  • Plenty of Water: A large (1/2-1gallon) reusable water bottle is essential. Hydration is key!
  • Lunch & Snacks: Students should bring a packed lunch. We will have designated snack breaks.
  • Dinner Money: Bring CASH for the pre-ordered dinners on Monday. Put it in an envelope with your student's name, and indicate that it is for pre-ordered dinners.
  • Dinner: if they didn't pre-order their meal
  • Sunscreen: We will be spending significant time outdoors.
  • Hat & Sunglasses: For sun protection.
  • Athletic Clothing: Lightweight, comfortable clothes are best for movement - white top and black shorts for band and blue tank with black shorts for guard.
  • Athletic Shoes: NO SANDALS OR OPEN-TOED SHOES. Sneakers are required for safety.
We are looking forward to a productive and fun band camp that sets the stage for an incredible marching band season. Please check out CutTime to see how you can help out and volunteer. If you are not in CutTime yet, email volunteer@parkvistaband.com to find out how you can help.
Your kids might act like they don't want to see you, but they really do appreciate when you volunteer! This is a family activity, and not just for the kids. :)

Senior Banner Photos:
Photos are RESCHEDULED - This will now take place at 3:00pm on August 7th.

Band Parent Meeting:
Meeting on Thursday in the PVHS Auditorium. 7:00 for new parents (returning parents are welcome too) and 8:00 for returning band parents.
** special note about band fees: PLEASE do not let fees be the bar of participation. We will have several fundraisers and opportunities throughout the year. If done right, you will not need to pay a single dime out of pocket (disregarding personal expenses). Ask a veteran parent how they did this. :)**
