PVHS MB July Update 4 - LAST JULY EMAIL
Good morning band families,
We are on our way to week 2! Your kids have been STELLAR and we are excited to continue to push them to reach their goals. Camp is M-Th 9AM-9PM this week (last week of this!!)
It is IMPERATIVE that your kids are hydrating, getting enough sleep, eating good food, and are attending rehearsals - even sitting out for a block is causing them to miss a lot. Veteran parents - we are moving fast this year so this is definitely a very good change of pace. On behalf of me, Mr. Rodriguez, Mr. Norman, and our staff, we are looking forward to getting Part 2 on the field this week!
Please read below for some critical updates/volunteer opportunities. This is a large email but full of information all in one thread:
Communications
Things can happen quickly during marching season, so it is important to use the right tools to stay up to date.
The Parent Hub is your main resource for everything you need to know (and cute action shots of your kids!! "Photo/Video Archive" page of the Parent HUB)

If you haven't already signed up for Slack, an invitation link is available here and on the Parent Hub. The Parent Hub calendar that lists all practices, competitions, and other events is available here.
To sync the calendar with your phone, click the button in the lower right corner of the calendar.
This will save this shared calendar to your Google account. If it doesn't show up, go to https://calendar.google. com/calendar/syncselect and make sure the calendar called "Park Vista Bands (Read Only)" is checked. The band calendar will now be visible in the Google Calendar app, and all other calendar apps that read from your Google account.
For assistance accessing Charms, contact Ms. Murthy.
Band Camp
Please sign up for fruit donations, fruit cutting and cool cloth washing for this week of band camp on Charms.
You can still order dinner for week 2 of band camp with this form. The form is here. Orders are due by NOON on Sunday, July 28th and payments should be in the band safe no later than Monday evening, July 29th.
Save the date: Wednesday, August 7th at 7pm, for the Friends and Family event. You will see what your student(s) have been working on and their amazing progress. Following the performance, dinner will be served at a minimal cost per person (students will eat for FREE).
We will have parent volunteer needs for the Friends and Family dinner and Band Olympics on Friday, August 9. Keep on the lookout for details posted in Charms in the coming weeks.
Forms
All forms are available here and on the Parent Hub. Hard copies of the field trip forms are also available in front of the director’s office in the band room.
Fair share, Physical, Medical Disclosure and Acknowledgement of Procedures for Administration of Medication and/or Medical Treatment on Field Trips, and Physician Authorization for Medications (if your child takes medications) are PAST DUE. Please turn them in ASAP! Many parents turned in physicals that are older than 1 year or will be expiring during marching band season. The physical must cover through 11/20/24. The physical EL2 form must be signed by a physician. All parents that have missing or incorrect paperwork will be notified by email. If you don’t receive an email, your paperwork was correct.
All field trip forms are due on Thursday by the end of the camp day.
Forms can be dropped off in the band room in the black paperwork bin by the podium, emailed to district.policy@ parkvistaband.com. Allison will be available in front of the band gate Monday and Tuesday evening at pick-up and Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:15am for any questions about paperwork.
Helpful tip: A notary is available in the school front office from drop-off camp time until 3:30 Mon-Thurs next week.
Volunteering
All parents who volunteer need to complete the online volunteer application with Raptor. Attached are the instructions on how to do this. After you have submitted your application you do need to stop by the front desk to scan your driver license.
Anyone interested and qualified to help out at football games/competitions as a volunteer medic please DM Allison Moyel on Slack or send an email of interest to district.policy@ parkvistaband.com.
Uniforms
For Our Returning Band Members: If you have a band uniform at home, please remember to wash it and bring it back to us on Monday.
For Our New Band Members (and their parents): Kids will be getting fit throughout the week during camp! Come hang out (parents) and help!
Volunteers Needed: We’re also looking for volunteers to help with washing the uniforms after performances. To make it easier, we’d like to assign this task by sections. If you’re interested in helping out, please reach out to us—we’d greatly appreciate your support.
Fundraising
Section wars: Your kids know about this one - send in spare change and bills. The winning section gets to "dress" the directors and student leadership in funny and embarrassing costumes at the Friends and Family night.
Be on the lookout for information about:
- Friday Night Lights program: this is your opportunity to sell ads in a program that is sold at every home game and earn money for your band fair share. You can also purchase a full-page student dedication page. A portion of all sales will go to the band general fund.
- The FAN ANGEL fundraiser: Your student will earn money for their fair share and for the band. This fundraiser is also associated with the Band Olympics on August 9th and will help your student's team earn points in addition to the fun games that are planned.
- 2025 SaveAround coupon book fundraiser: Books are $25 each and have great coupons for restaurants and attractions in and around Palm Beach County. You will split the $12.50 profits for book sales with the band. You can start to collect (and hold) money from your friends and family who would like to purchase the book and as soon as we have them, you can send in your payments and deliver!! More information will be available regarding the contents of the book and online sales.
FLA Live
If you need help with Band fees this is a friendly reminder we still have some spots open to make some money at the arena. Buju Banton Concert on Friday 8/23/24 report time 5:30pm. Please make sure that your certificate is completed and emailed to flalive@parkvistaband.com. Attached is instructions on how to sign up for the certificate, it will only take at most an hour and it's free. Please reach out to Nathalie if you need help. Please also remember you do need to complete the online volunteer application with Raptor. Nathalie Montilla (2 attachments)
Finances
If you have balance in your band account, please screenshot the FINANCES section of your Charms account before the transition to CutTime.
Events
Amy Krostich is our new Events Coordinator. In the coming weeks and throughout the band season all band parents who are interested can reach out to her to help with some behind the scenes planning (via in person meetings, phone calls/texts/email) and coordinating our various band event happenings. We would like the event planning for our group to be collaborative and it’s a great way to get your feet wet in parent leadership. If you are interested in serving on the Events Committee contact at events@parkvistaband.com
Orlando BOA Trip
We may be able to purchase group tickets to BOA if enough parents are interested. We would only purchase the prelims since we are not sure if our band makes the finals until that day. Lorraine will send out a Google form polling parents to see who is interested. Tickets have not gone on sale yet.
Information about the hotel the kids will be staying at will be provided shortly. You can book your own hotel room for the event on the band's travel site and a portion of the cost will be donated to the band program.
Large email - but please, as always, keep in touch if you need anything or have any questions!
